Bora Rear lights problem

Hi. Twice recently, the light like a coil has started flashing. Also a message that car to be taken to mechanic or similar. Oddly traced to rear brake lights not working. I noticed it came on the first time I used footbrake after starting. Both bulbs were fine each time and then for no apparent reason they worked again. Any suggestions please.
